Can't wait for the On's, they look great. I am a fan of the Cloudmonster Hyper on the road.
Norda 005 - I haven't seen this mentioned, but I bottom out the midsole. I'm not super heavy, just under 80kg, but around 15-20km into each run I am landing on the ground through the forefoot. This is not a big issue on softer trails, but when it's hard ground or rocky it means they are a no go for longer runs or ultra's which is disappointing. I also had the heel issue initially and found putting both insoles in solved this problem, but another annoyance at the RRP.
Enduris 4 - I love them! Buttery smooth midsole and rocker combo suits me well. If I have to perform surgery on the plate (did with Vectiv Pro) I will because the rest of it feels soooo good! Likely to be my staple shoe and possibly even ultra race shoe.
I have not had that 005 issue which is very interesting. I wonder if they’d send you another pair if you reached out cause that doesn’t seem normal! Worth a shot! They’ve got a great CS team.
I really don’t want to perform surgery on the wing of the Enduris haha but it might come to it. Because I agree! Buttery smooth. This foam is a much better compound and what I was hoping the Altamesa had!
Loved this roundup and also love talking all things shoes-especially trail shoes!
You've got me mighty excited about the Puma trail shoes-I've run in both the Deviate Nitro and Deviate Nitro 2s and have loved both of them immensely as road shoes that can kind of do it all.
Regarding the NB trail shoes-it's crazy how they only seem to be investing in Euro trail athletes (Manu Merrillas comes to mind along with a few others like Davide Magnini) and seem to be missing the US trail athlete market all together considering they're a US based company. I'm curious what the reasoning is behind that? NB is also in that category with Puma (and Asics in my opinion) where their road shoes have been making amazing developments the past few years but we have yet to see them make big pushes into the trail market. I sure hope this shifts/changes in the next few years.
NB Fuelcell Supercomp Trails are on Sierra.com for a big discount which is usually a pretty good sign a new model should be coming in soon. Same with Adidas ASU shoes going on sale.
I'm super excited to hopefully get my hands on the Prodigio Pros once they get back in stock on the La Sportiva website. I'm between racing in those or the S/lab genesis's for most of my ultras this year. I'm also super interested to see what the Kjerag update will look like seeing how I tried on the Kjerag bruts in my local run store and the foam felt amazing/the shoe felt even lighter/bouncier than the OG Kjerags despite being listed at a heavier weight. If the Kjerag 2's come out like this, I might have a hard time choosing.
Keep up the great work and loved this segment as someone who could read and talk about trail shoes all day!
Rob! Thanks so much for reading man and sharing your thoughts and passion!
The Pumas are so good. I’ve got them on right now as we speak for race day!
I think you’re spot on with the NB, Puma, ASICS thoughts. Their focus has been other markets, but for ASICS, the signing of Tom this year is a sure indicator they are coming in hot to North America. I also know that NB has had a multi year plan of their re entry back into trail and this years is year one with the overhauled Hierro. We’re gonna see a lot from them guaranteed in this space! I am hoping that Puma can apply the success of the Deviate Elite trail to a non plated trail shoe too.
The Kjerag 2s are also in my peripheral. The first shoe was too low stack for me (I have the Norda 002 that serves that purpose and will last forever), but the added stack entices me big time!
Also had durability issues with On shoes, which is a pitty as the hype around their trail signings is very promising.
interested in the Nike Ultrafly 2, although what price they'll be in Euroland with all the tariffs is anyone's guess.
Curious to see how many miles you get out of the Puma's.
Yeah, and Norda just stopped shipping to the US as of yesterday. Craziness. I heard PUMA is promising 500 miles which would be amazing.
The Brooks shoe is going to be named the Cascadia Elite. Feb launch I think I saw?
You’re a hero! Stoked for that
Loved the reviews of the shoes. Thank you 😊
Thanks for reading!!
Enjoyed this summary, thanks for sharing.
